The story began in 1975 when P.F. Alaniz bought a Marcy weight set for his sons. By 1976, the boys quickly outgrew the set and their enthusiasm led to gym memberships. After 1.5 years of training, they discovered powerlifting in 1978 at the Texas State Teenage Championships. They immediately became passionate about the sport and continued to pursue it. By 1980, the youngest son, David, left for the Marines, but Pete stayed home. Pete, along with his training partners Leo Benavides and Stan O’Neal, purchased their first squat suits.
Mrs. Irma P. Alaniz, Pete’s mother, crafted better suits after criticizing the fit of commercially available options. After some trials, Pete agreed to let his mother create custom-made suits. The family made significant progress and eventually began training with world-renowned lifter Rick Gaugler. Gaugler’s influence elevated their training and led to Mrs. Alaniz creating a suit for him.
At the 1981 USPF Nationals, Gaugler impressed crowds with remarkable feats, setting new records. Inspired by this success, Pete decided to start a powerlifting gear business, which Mrs. Alaniz supported. With the help of family members and a small $200 investment, the business was born.
They operated from a modest garage, with each family member contributing to the effort. Over time, the company grew into a successful powerlifting gear manufacturer. They focused on combining craftsmanship with modern manufacturing techniques to produce high-quality products. Their commitment to innovation and performance led to groundbreaking designs in powerlifting equipment.
