FLAMES Calculator
What This Tool Does
FLAMES is a classic name game β enter two names, and it runs the letter-elimination algorithm to land on one of six outcomes: Friends, Lovers, Affectionate, Marriage, Enemies, or Siblings. It’s a nostalgic bit of fun, not a real prediction.

How It’s Calculated
The algorithm follows three steps:
Step 1 β Cross out matching letters. Compare both names and remove one matching letter from each side, one pair at a time, until no more matches remain.
Step 2 β Count what’s left. Add up the total remaining letters from both names combined.
Step 3 β Eliminate around F-L-A-M-E-S. Using that count, eliminate letters cyclically from F-L-A-M-E-S until only one remains β that’s your result.
Worked example: ALEX and MAYA.
- ALEX has one “A”; MAYA has two. Cross out one matching pair: ALEX β L, E, X remains; MAYA β M, Y, A remains.
- Total remaining letters: 3 + 3 = 6
- Counting around F-L-A-M-E-S in cycles of 6, eliminating one letter each pass: S is eliminated first, then F, then A, then L, then E β leaving M.
- Result: Marriage
Edge Cases and Special Rules
- Repeated letters cancel one at a time: If a letter appears multiple times, only matching pairs cancel β extra unmatched copies stay in the count.
- Spaces and case don’t matter: Names are typically compared letter by letter regardless of capitalization or spacing.
- Nicknames change the result: Since the algorithm works purely on spelling, using a nickname instead of a full name will usually produce a different outcome.
- Small remaining counts still cycle: Even with very few letters left, the elimination keeps counting around the remaining FLAMES letters in the same cyclical way.
FLAMES vs. “Love Percentage” Calculators
These often get lumped together, but they work differently. FLAMES is deterministic β the same two names always produce the same one of six categories, based purely on letter counting. “Love percentage” or compatibility-percentage tools, by contrast, are usually novelty generators that produce a number rather than a category, and many of them are randomized or use a different (often undisclosed) method rather than the classic FLAMES algorithm. If you’re looking for the traditional playground game, FLAMES is the letter-based version β a percentage score is a different kind of tool entirely.

FLAMES Result Meanings
Each outcome represents a different playful category, not a serious prediction: Friends suggests easy companionship, Lovers points to romantic chemistry, Affectionate implies warmth and care, Marriage is the “ultimate” playful result, Enemies suggests rivalry (often joked about as its own trope), and Siblings implies a close, platonic bond.
FAQ
Is the FLAMES calculator accurate?
No β it’s a fun letter-counting game, not a real measure of compatibility or relationship outcomes.
Will I get the same result every time with the same two names?
Yes, the algorithm is deterministic β the same names always produce the same result.
Can FLAMES actually predict marriage?
No, the “M” result is just part of the game’s playful design, not a genuine prediction.
Does spelling variation change the result?
Yes β using a nickname or different spelling of a name will likely change the outcome, since it’s based purely on letters.
Is there a version using date of birth instead of names?
Some variants exist, but they use a different method than the classic letter-based FLAMES game covered here.
