What This Tool Does
The Dhan brokerage calculator estimates the exact cost of a trade executed through Dhan — brokerage plus all applicable regulatory charges — across equity delivery, intraday, futures, and options.

How It’s Calculated
Dhan’s current brokerage structure:
- Equity delivery: ₹0 (zero brokerage)
- Intraday (equity, F&O, commodity): ₹20 or 0.03% of trade value per executed order, whichever is lower
- Options: flat ₹20 per executed order, regardless of lot size or premium
- Female customers: a 50% discount applies to intraday and F&O brokerage (₹10 instead of ₹20 per order)
On top of brokerage, regulatory charges apply: Securities Transaction Tax (STT), exchange transaction charges, GST (18% on brokerage and exchange charges), SEBI turnover fees, and stamp duty.
Worked example: 200 shares bought intraday at ₹450, sold the same day at ₹460.
- Buy turnover: 200 × 450 = ₹90,000 → brokerage: lower of (90,000 × 0.03% = ₹27) and ₹20 → ₹20
- Sell turnover: 200 × 460 = ₹92,000 → brokerage: lower of (92,000 × 0.03% = ₹27.6) and ₹20 → ₹20
- Total brokerage (both legs): ₹40
- STT (intraday, sell-side only, 0.025%): 92,000 × 0.025% ≈ ₹23
Exchange transaction charges, GST, SEBI charges, and stamp duty add further smaller amounts on top of these two components.
Edge Cases and Special Rules
- Charged per executed order, not per share: If a single order fills in multiple parts, brokerage may be calculated per execution, depending on how the fills occur.
- Delivery brokerage is genuinely zero: Equity, ETF, and IPO delivery trades carry no brokerage — but DP (depository participant) charges, typically around ₹12.50–20 per scrip, still apply when selling delivery holdings.
- MTF trades follow the intraday-style rate: Margin Trading Facility transactions are grouped under the same ₹20-or-0.03%-whichever-lower structure as regular intraday trades.
- Options don’t scale with lot size: Whether you trade 1 lot or 10 lots, options brokerage stays a flat ₹20 per executed order — only the premium value and resulting STT change.
Broker-Specific Charges vs. Regulatory Charges
Brokerage is the one component that differs from broker to broker — Dhan, Zerodha, Groww, Angel One, and others each set their own rates and structures (other pages on this site cover each broker’s specific numbers separately). Everything else — STT, exchange transaction charges, GST, SEBI turnover fees, and stamp duty — is set by regulators and exchanges, and applies identically no matter which broker you trade through. When comparing brokers, the meaningful difference to look at is brokerage and any account-related fees (AMC, DP charges) — not the regulatory charges, which won’t change.
Who Uses This
- Active intraday and F&O traders estimating costs before placing a trade
- Investors comparing Dhan’s zero-delivery-brokerage model against other brokers
- Female traders confirming their discounted brokerage rate
- Anyone wanting to see total trade cost, not just the headline brokerage figure
Brokerage vs. Net Debit (Total Trade Cost)
These aren’t the same number, and conflating them understates your real cost. Brokerage is just one line item — the fee charged specifically for executing the order. Net debit (for a buy) or net credit (for a sell) is the full picture: trade value plus brokerage plus every regulatory charge combined. A trade with ₹0 delivery brokerage still isn’t entirely free, since STT, exchange charges, and stamp duty still apply on top.
